The past is just as important as the future
Few inventions have had as startling, sudden, and wide-ranging an impact on human society as the automobile. And yet, for something with such a monumental social impact, the automobile has also had a remarkable ability to affect us on a personal level. We may not remember anything else about high school graduation, but we remember what we were driving.
Automobiles permeate our memories, and they inescapably tie those memories to a time and a place. They are landmarks, they are touchstones, and they are our personal histories in steel and glass.
